DC TOUCHDOWN CLUB WEEK 14 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TERRLONTA BUCHANAN, BALLOU

There were times that Ballou first-year coach Minoso Rodgers expected quarterback Terrlonta Buchanan might take off running. The pocket would collapse or a defender would appear to be breaking free. In past games, Buchanan might have given up on the play and opted to try to run for positive yardage.

But in Saturday’s DC State Athletic Association Class AA championship, Buchanan was steady, waiting for plays to develop. He completed 15 of 22 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns and he ran for three more scores to lead the Knights to a 39-28 victory over Friendship Collegiate.

For his efforts, Buchanan was named the DC Touchdown Club presented by Capital Bank High School Football Player of the Week, powered by Under Armour.

“His best patience was probably the best I’ve seen from him all year,” Rodgers said. “He definitely sat in the pocket longer than he had in the past. He would have used his legs where [Saturday] he waited for people to come open. He definitely was a field general.”

Recruiting interest is started to pick up in Buchanan, a 6-foot, 205-pound senior, who led his team to previous postseason victories over Wilson and H.D. Woodson.

“We have to get a team to love him,” Rodgers said.
