Bowling Green to play No. 24 San Jose State in Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman

Washington, D.C. – The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman tonight announced that Bowling Green has accepted an invitation to play No. 24 San Jose State in this year’s game. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. EST on Dec. 27 at RFK Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

“We couldn’t be more excited,” Military Bowl Executive Director & President Steve Beck said. “This could potentially be the best matchup in our five-year history.”

Bowling Green (8-4) went on a late-season run, winning seven of its final eight regular season games to earn its first bowl bid since a 43-42 loss to Idaho in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl. Defensive lineman Chris Jones leads a unit that held seven opponents to one touchdown or less and was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He was one of 10 Falcons to earn all-conference honors.

San Jose State (10-2) is the highest-ranked team ever to play in the Military Bowl, entering with a six-game winning streak that this week propelled the Spartans into the national rankings for the first time since 1975.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

“This is a great matchup for us, and we look forward to hosting San Jose State, Bowling Green and their fans in the nation’s capital,” said Erik Moses, managing director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division.

In its fifth year, the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman brings the excitement of postseason football to the Washington, D.C. area while also supporting the USO and our nation’s military personnel. Once again, the Military Bowl this year will donate at least $100,000 to the USO and provide at least 5,000 complimentary tickets for active-duty military personnel and their families.

Tickets for the Military Bowl are on sale now at militarybowl.org, with prices starting at $25.
