Field Goal Lifts Army Over Vanderbilt In Overtime

Alex Carlton kicked a 42-yard field goal in overtime, as Army inched by Vanderbilt, 16-13. The Black Knights picked up their third win of the season, evening their record at 3-3.

Army needs three more victories to clinch a berth in the 2009 EagleBank Bowl.

In ACC action, Virginia Tech dominated Boston College, 48-14. North Carolina defeated Georgia Southern, 42-12. Virginia crushed Indiana, 47-7.

Duke pulled away from N.C. State late to win, 49-28. Wake Forest beat Maryland by 10 points, 42-32.

Miami handled Florida A&M, 48-16, while Georgia Tech won a shoot-out over Florida State, 49-44.

In Conference USA, Houston beat Mississippi State by a touchdown, 31-24, as Case Keenum threw four touchdown passes to lead the Cougars.

Marshall defeated Tulane by three touchdowns, 31-10, while Rice lost big to Navy, 63-14. Southern Mississippi fell short against Louisville, 25-23, as the Cardinals kicked a 32-yard field goal with 30 seconds to play.

Memphis had its way with UTEP, 35-20, and SMU won in a close game with East Carolina, 28-21.

Week 6 Player of the Week
Alex Carlton, the kicker for Army, made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 51-yarder and a 42-yarder in overtime that helped propel the Black Knights to a win over Vanderbilt.

Week 6 Upset of the Week
Not a lot of upsets this week, but SMU’s 28-21 win over East Carolina caught some folks by surprise as the Pirates are frequently one of the teams to beat in Conference USA.
