MARYLAND BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION STEPS UP FOR PATRIOT POINT RENOVATIONS

The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, benefiting the USO, and the Maryland Building Industry Association today announced a joint partnership that will bring major support to renovations at Patriot Point, the Military Bowl Foundation’s 290-acre retreat for wounded, ill and injured service members, their families and caregivers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Through its official charity, the Home Builders Care Foundation, the Maryland Building Industry Association has authorized at least a $100,000 contribution toward the upcoming Main House renovation at Patriot Point. Built in 1925 and once owned by silent movie star Clara Bow, the Main House needs a complete roof replacement, as well as new decking, windows and siding. Interior improvements also are needed and accessibility will be improved throughout. A new pole barn also is planned.

“This is a project we should get behind,” said Home Builders Care Foundation President Mike Karns of Winchester Homes. “Our industry has the construction resources to truly make an impact with what needs to be done on the property. Our assistance will enhance Patriot Point as a first-class retreat for Veterans in need of healing. It is a great way to say ‘thank you’ for serving our country to everyone involved – injured service members, Gold Star Families and caregivers.”

With addition help from individual Maryland Building Industry Association members and support from the National Association of Home Builders, the Home Builders Care Foundation is committed to exploring additional opportunities where they can be of further assistance with improvements at Patriot Point.

Members of the Home Builders Care Foundation board of directors will participate in a halftime ceremony at this year’s Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, on Monday, Dec. 31 as Virginia Tech plays Cincinnati at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.

Tickets for the Military Bowl start at $30 and can be purchased online at militarybowl.org or by calling Ticket Alternative at 877-725-8849. Proceeds from the Bowl also benefit Patriot Point, the Military Bowl’s 290-acre retreat for recovering service members, their families and caregivers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
