Mid-American Conference Representative will play BCS No. 25 San Jose State Spartans in the 2012 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman tonight announced that it will feature a team from the Mid-American Conference against San Jose State on Dec. 27 at RFK Stadium. The game will air nationally on ESPN. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. EST.

“It has been a tremendous season for the MAC, with so many teams making their presence known on a national basis,” Military Bowl President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “We are excited to reach an agreement with the MAC to bring one of their teams to the nation’s capital and look forward to another fantastic game.”

The MAC representative will not be selected until after tonight’s Marathon MAC championship game between Bowl Championship Series No. 17 Kent State and BCS No. 21 Northern Illinois and Sunday’s BCS team selection.

This will be the third trip to the Military Bowl for the MAC in the past four years. Last year, Toledo defeated Air Force, 42-41, and in 2009 then-member Templelost to UCLA, 30-21.

San Jose State, which is 10-2 and No. 25 in the latest BCS standings, accepted its Military Bowl bid earlier Friday. The Spartans, who won their final six regular season games and have beaten four bowl-bound teams, will be making their first postseason appearance since the 2006 New Mexico Bowl.

In its fifth year, the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman brings the excitement of postseason football to the Washington, D.C. area while also supporting the USO and our nation’s military personnel. Once again, the Military Bowl this year will donate at least $100,000 to the USO and provide at least 5,000 complimentary tickets for active-duty military personnel and their families.
