2014 Military Bowl® presented by Northrop Grumman set for Saturday, Dec. 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Military Bowl® presented by Northrop Grumman, benefiting the USO, today announced that its 2014 game will kick off on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 1 p.m. ET at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. It will be televised nationally on ESPN.
This year’s game is the first in a six-year cycle that will match a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) against an opponent from the American Athletic Conference. The Military Bowl now has long-term partnerships in place with both conferences, ESPN and Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
“With a new conference matchup and many new exciting Bowl Week events in the works, we are certain that the 2014 game will be our best yet,” Military Bowl President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “A Saturday afternoon kickoff is great not only for football fans in the local community but also for those traveling to the region. We look forward to hosting the teams and fans in the National Capital Region this December.”
This past year, for the fourth consecutive bowl season, the Military Bowl provided $100,000 to the USO and thousands of complimentary tickets to military personnel and their families. As part of the 2013 Military Bowl gameday activities, Northrop Grumman donated a specially equipped van to the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore for wounded warrior transportation.
The 2013 matchup between Maryland and Marshall attracted more than 30,000 fans to the festivities at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Thundering Herd defeated the Terrapins 31-20 in Annapolis.
