NAVY QUARTERBACK BLAKE HORVATH NAMED GO BOWLING MILITARY BOWL

STEM SCHOLAR-ATHLETE PRESENTED BY FOGNIGMA

Navy quarterback Blake Horvath, a senior majoring in operations research, has been named a Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete presented by Fognigma.

Horvath, who is from Hilliard, Ohio, has a 3.69 grade-point average. In his second season as the Midshipmen’s starting quarterback, he has consistently been honored on and off the field. Last season, Horvath was named the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Player of the Year. This year, he is a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, presented annually to the college football’s top scholar-athlete.

“STEM has become a passion of mine through the courses offered here at the Naval Academy such as Chemistry, Physics, Linear Programming, Data Wrangling and Statistics,” Horvath said. “I plan on doing my capstone next semester on the analytics behind hamstring injuries using data from our football team. I aspire to one day apply my major in operations research to work in business logistics and supply chain management.”

Horvath has earned a spot on the Superintendent’s List every academic year and has had a 4.0 GPA each of the last three semesters.

“As a football player, Blake Horvath brings the same level of discipline, meticulousness and passion to his academic work as he does to the field,” Naval Academy math professor Irina Popovici said. “Throughout his collegiate career, Blake has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to excellence. Blake’s enthusiasm for learning has translated into a strong ability to apply foundational mathematical concepts from Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics directly to his work in Operations Research. … His attention to detail in optimizing problems and meticulously formatting constraints is a hallmark of his work. Blake has developed the ability to convert his deep technical understanding of advanced algorithms into well communicated solutions for the optimization and logistics problems at hand.”

The Go Bowling Military Bowl is proud to recognize the members of the fifth annual Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete Program presented by Fognigma, honoring some of the brightest minds competing on the football field in the ACC and the American Conference.

“We are excited to once again present the Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete Program and celebrate the successes of these student-athletes on the field and in the classroom,” Military Bowl Foundation President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “Along with our partners at Fognigma, we congratulate these young men for their achievements and look forward to their continued success.”

The Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete Program presented by Fognigma honors one football player at each university that is a member of the ACC and the American Conference – the two conferences that are represented in the Go Bowling Military Bowl college football game. These players are studying STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) subjects and/or aspire to STEM careers.

The two players whose teams compete in the 2025 Go Bowling Military Bowl will be recognized at the game, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN. Bowl tickets are on sale now. A donation will be made by Fognigma in the name of these two players to their respective school’s general scholarship fund.
