Army Falls to Air Force; Virginia Tech Beats East Carolina
Army lost to fellow service academy Air Force, 35-7. The Black Knights and Falcons were tied 7-7 at the half, but Air force broke open the game with 28 unanswered points to emerge victorious.
Army is now 3-6 and must win its final three games to qualify for the 2009 EagleBank Bowl.
In the ACC, Virginia Tech defeated East Carolina, 16-3. Miami whipped Virginia, 52-17. N.C. State got by Maryland, 38-31. Georgia Tech squeaked by Wake Forest, 30-27, in overtime.
North Carolina handled Duke, 19-6. Clemson beat Florida State, 40-24.
In Conference USA, as mentioned above, East Carolina lost to Virginia Tech, 16-3. UCF was no match for highly ranked Texas, falling 35-3.
UAB won big over Florida Atlantic, 56-29. SMU bested Rice by a field goal, 31-28, while Tulane beat UTEP by a touchdown, 45-38.
Memphis scored half as many points as Tennessee in a 56-28 defeat. Houston came back in the final minutes of its game against Tulsa, pulling out the thriller, 46-45.
Week 10 Player of the Week
Chalk up another Player of the Week nod to Houston’s Case Keenum. The junior quarterback completed 40 of 60 passes for 522 yards and three touchdowns, rallying the Cougars to nine points in the final 21 seconds of the game to defeat Tulsa, 46-45.
Week 10 Upset of the Week
No really big upsets this week, so we’ll mention the two games that almost featured shocking final results: ACC leader Georgia Tech beat Wake Forest in overtime, while Conference USA powerhouse Houston scored nine points with less than a minute to go to get by Tulsa.
