FORMER MARYLAND GOVERNOR LARRY HOGAN JOINS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Military Bowl Foundation today announced that Larry Hogan, who served two terms as the Governor of Maryland from 2015 to 2023, has joined the Military Bowl Foundation Board of Directors.

Governor Hogan, who grew up in Landover, Md., attended football powerhouses DeMatha Catholic High School and Florida State University. A lifelong Marylander, small business owner and ardent football fan, Governor Hogan also is a strong believer in standing up for the men and women who serve the country. The first law he signed as governor was to recognize “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day,” acknowledging the historic injustice of the treatment of Vietnam veterans.

During his time in office, Hogan was a strong supporter of the Military Bowl college football game and Patriot Point. Hogan annually participated in the Military Bowl Parade and in 2018 was the Military Bowl Parade grand marshal. With a focus on the veteran community, Hogan also pushed for and enacted legislation to provide tax relief for retired veterans, encouraged employers to hire veterans and provide assistance for veterans’ housing and more.

During his recent campaign for U.S. Senate, Governor Hogan spent half a day at Patriot Point, the Military Bowl Foundation’s 294-acre retreat for wounded, ill and injured service members, their families and caregivers, so that he could learn more about how the Foundation is helping active-duty and veteran service members.

“Larry Hogan has been a dedicated public servant and repeatedly has demonstrated his concern for the men and women who wear our country’s uniform and defend our freedoms at home and abroad,” Military Bowl Foundation President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “We are honored to have him join our team and look forward to his contributions as we continue making a difference for so many service members.”

Recognized as a bipartisan consensus builder, Hogan was extremely popular throughout the state, becoming just the second republican governor in state history to be reelected. He did all of this while overcoming a personal battle against cancer.

“It is a great honor to join the Military Bowl Foundation Board of Directors,” Hogan said. “I have seen firsthand the direct impact this organization has in improving the lives of countless service members and veterans. Every day as governor, I was proud to stand up for the men and women who have given so much in service to our country, and look forward to continue supporting them and their families.”
