WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, benefiting the USO, today announced that its 2016 game will kick off on Tuesday, December 27 at 3:30 p.m. ET at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. It will be televised nationally on ESPN.
For the third consecutive season, the game will match a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference against a team from the American Athletic Conference. This past December in the 2015 Military Bowl, Navy beat Pittsburgh, 44-28, before a sellout crowd of 36,352.
“We have had three sensational years in Annapolis and we look forward to another terrific Bowl Week and Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman,” DC Bowl Committee President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “We know how much teams and fans enjoy all of the events leading up to the Bowl and our games have been nothing short of awesome, playing before 98.8 percent of stadium capacity over the last three years.”
This past year, for the sixth consecutive bowl season, the Military Bowl provided more than $100,000 to the USO and thousands of complimentary tickets to military personnel and their families. This year, the Bowl also will benefit Patriot Point, the DC Bowl Committee’s latest endeavor, a 290-acre retreat for wounded service members near Cambridge, Md.
According to a report prepared by Visit Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, the 2015 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman directly generated more than $17 million for the Annapolis/Washington region. In the three years the bowl has been played in Annapolis, it has generated more than $47 million in direct economic impact.
“We are thrilled with the impact the Bowl continues to make,” Beck said. “In addition to our primary mission of supporting and honoring our nation’s military, one of our goals is to make an impact on the local economy. There is no question that local fans and fans of the participating teams love what the Bowl has to offer.”
