MILITARY BOWL AND 3M TEAM UP TO SPONSOR FOURTH ANNUAL 3M PLAY TO WIN AWARD

The Military Bowl presented by Perspecta and five-star sponsor 3M are proud to announce that the popular 3M Play to Win Award returns for a fourth year to honor some of the National Capital Region’s top high school and middle school student-athletes.

Coaches, parents, guardians, friends and others can nominate students in fifth through 12th grades at www.militarybowl.org/3M. The Military Bowl and 3M are looking for students who have some or all of these qualifications:

  • Passionate about football and displaying team spirit.
  • Has a relative who serves or has served in the military.
  • A demonstrated strong interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)
  • A demonstrated strong interest in social justice and/or racial equity.

“3M is honored to be a part of the Military Bowl and is even more proud of our ongoing support of the DMV community through the 3M Play To Win Award,” said Skip Driessen, Marketing Leader, 3M Government Markets. “This award recognizes youths with an interest in STEM, which is a pillar of 3M’s social impact focus, as well as those who – like 3M – take an active role in promoting racial equity and social justice.”

The Military Bowl and 3M will choose six finalists (three high schoolers and three middle schoolers) for the award. In December, one high school student and one middle school student will be selected as the 3M Play to Win Award winners and will receive a 3M prize package.

The 2019 3M Play to Win Award was Jayden Moore, the son of two service members and then an eighth-grader at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Md. The 2018 Play to Win Award winner was Afton Terry, the daughter of an Air Force major and then a sixth-grader at Arundel Middle School in Odenton, Md. The inaugural 3M Play to Win Award winner was George Garcia III, then a fifth grader at Fort Belvoir Elementary School and the son of two active-duty U.S. Air Force service members.

“The 3M Play to Win Award honors some of the amazing student-athletes in our region,” said Steve Beck, Military Bowl Foundation president & executive director. “We are excited to continue this award and our partnership with 3M, which shares the commitment of giving back to the community and helping shape the next generation of leaders.”
