Military Village returns to the DC Armory Mall prior to the 2012 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman

Washington, D.C. – The DC Bowl Committee and Events DC announced today that the popular Military Village will return for a second year on the DC Armory Mall. The Village, along with a new outdoor tailgate, will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on game day, Dec. 27, before the 3 p.m. kickoff between No. 24 San Jose State and Bowling Green in the 2012 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman at RFK Stadium. Admission to the Military Village is free.

“The Military Village was wildly successful in its debut last year and we’re looking forward to an even better experience this year,” Military Bowl President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “Nothing can replicate this event.”

“The Military Village provides a truly unique opportunity for Military Bowl fans to learn about and interact with the machinery and equipment used by our armed forces,” added Erik A. Moses, Managing Director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division. “We encourage fans from both schools, residents and visitors to our city to stop by the Village before taking in an afternoon of fantastic college football.”

Among the military displays scheduled are: an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew, a 29-foot search and rescue boat and gear demonstrations from the Coast Guard; a Navy SEAL pull-up challenge; two Humvees and an MTVR cargo truck from the Navy Seabees; a UH-72 Lakota helicopter and three tactical vehicles from the Army National Guard; a UH-1N Huey helicopter, an Explosives Ordinance Disposal robot demonstration and K-9 demonstration from the Air Force; and two Mobile USO units with tours and giveaways. DRASH Tents, the same climate-controlled units the military uses overseas, will house exhibits and the tailgate party.

Also, located in the Military Village, Northrop Grumman and the Air Force Association (AFA) are hosting CyberVille, a social media game in which players defend their virtual town from computer cyber attacks. Northrop Grumman is the presenting sponsor of AFA’s CyberPatriot program, the nation’s largest and fastest-growing high school cyber defense competition.

The rock and blues band Halfway to Concord will perform throughout the day. A Drill Team performance will take place at 1:30 p.m. in front of the USO-Metro Mobile. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from food trucks and vendors.
