Nominations Being Accepted to Honor Extraordinary Teachers

The National Capital Region’s college football bowl game and its supermarket partner continue providing grants to teachers, especially those with military ties and those who teach in military communities

Nominations are now being accepted as the Go Bowling Military Bowl and its partner, Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., for the third consecutive year seek to honor some of the most important members of the National Capital Region community as part of the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative.

The program, which is organized by the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Go Bowling Military Bowl and Wegmans, provides grants to deserving public school teachers for use in their classrooms and for their students. Preference will be given to teachers who are veterans or from military families as well as to teachers who serve communities with significant military populations.

Nominations and submissions for the grants can be made at militarybowl.link/2025eyft through September 30. Selected teachers will be recognized at the 2025 Go Bowling Military Bowl game. More information about the promotion is available in Wegmans stores throughout the National Capital Region alongside the back-to-school Snapple displays.

Additionally, on September 16, the Go Bowling Military Bowl will join bowl games across the nation as they honor educators on the Big Day for Teachers.

“The Extra Yard for Teachers program is a wonderful way to recognize some of the cornerstones of our community,” Military Bowl Foundation President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “Teachers make an incredible impact on the thousands of children who come through the classrooms. We are very appreciative of the support of Wegmans, which shares our commitment not only to those helping shape and develop the minds of these future leaders but also is dedicated to helping those who serve our great nation.”

Last year, the Go Bowling Military Bowl, Wegmans and College Football Playoff Foundation provided grants to 11 local teachers in recognition of their dedication to students. These teachers represented school districts from across the Mid-Atlantic Region, stretching from Prince William County in Virginia to Anne Arundel County in Maryland.

“We are devoted to being a good neighbor in every community we serve,” said Chris Holland, community engagement & communications manager at Wegmans. “We believe that education creates opportunity. The National Capital Region has many educators that have served our nation and now continue to serve our communities.  We are proud of our sustained partnership with Military Bowl in support of Extra Yard for Teachers to honor and celebrate some of these wonderful educators.”

This year’s Go Bowling Military Bowl will be held on Saturday, December 27, kicking off at 11 a.m. ET at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., and televised on ESPN. Tickets go on sale this fall. The game once again will match teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the American Athletic Conference. Proceeds from the Bowl benefit Patriot Point, the Military Bowl Foundation’s 294-acre retreat for wounded, ill and injured service members, their families and caregivers.
