Play to Win Award

Since 2017, the Military Bowl has joined with five-star sponsor 3M to present the 3M Play to Win Award to one of the National Capital Region’s top student-athletes.

The 3M Play to Win Award was created to honor a student who has demonstrated a keen interest in STEM programs (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and also has strong family ties to the U.S. Armed Forces. Students in grades 5 to 8 who live in the greater Washington-Baltimore metropolitan region are eligible for the award.

The inaugural Play to Win Award winner was fifth-grader George Garcia from Fort Belvoir Elementary, the son of two U.S. Air Force service members. The 2018 Play to Win Award winner was sixth-grader Afton Terry from Arundel Middle School and the daughter of a U.S. Air Force major.

“In a short amount of time, the 3M Play to Win Award has distinguished itself by recognizing outstanding student-athletes in the National Capital Region,” said Steve Beck, Military Bowl Foundation president & executive director. “We are excited to partner with 3M, which shares our commitment of giving back to the community and helping shape the next generation of leaders.”
