The 2024 Go Bowling Military Bowl, in partnership with Annapolis Green, kept nearly five tons of waste out of landfills as the Bowl once again took significant conservation efforts to create an environmentally friendly event.
With the goal of creating zero waste in the pregame Tailgate Festival and in hospitality areas in the stadium, the Bowl collected 2.1 tons of waste that was turned into compost and 2.68 tons of recycling. With caterers using compostable serving pieces, 22 volunteers pitched in as everything from cups and plates to utensils and napkins made from plant-based materials were used so that everything could be composted by Veteran Compost.
This was the third consecutive year that the Military Bowl undertook conservation efforts and the impact was triple that of the first year that Military Bowl partnered with Annapolis Green.
“The Military Bowl knows the importance of being a good neighbor and reducing our environmental footprint,” Military Bowl Foundation President & Executive Director Steve Beck said. “We are pleased with the results of this year’s Bowl and look forward to continuing to find ways that we can reduce our waste.”
The 2024 Go Bowling Military Bowl saw East Carolina beat NC State, 26-21, before a crowd of 23,981 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
Proceeds from the Bowl benefit Patriot Point, the Military Bowl Foundation’s 294-acre retreat for wounded, ill and injured service members, their families and caregivers.
